Chapter 26 — The Photographer Husband
Veeresh drove them to the Taj Residency, where the political party gathering was being held.
Poornima sat beside him, while Noor was comfortably settled in the back seat.
As they reached the entrance, several cars were already arriving.
Veeresh got out first and walked around to the other side.
He opened the door and carefully picked Noor up.
Poornima stepped out after him, adjusting her saree.
She looked around at the decorated entrance.
Poornima: "What party is this again?"
Veeresh glanced at her.
Veeresh: "The Jan Shakti Front's political gathering."
Poornima nodded.
She took out her phone and looked at Veeresh.
Poornima: "Photographer husband."
Veeresh raised an eyebrow.
Veeresh: "What?"
She handed him her phone.
Poornima: "Take a good picture of me."
Veeresh looked at the phone and then at her.
A small smile appeared on his face.
Veeresh: "You want me to be your photographer now?"
Poornima: "Yes. And make sure it's a good picture."
Veeresh: "Alright."
Poornima stood near the entrance, fixing her saree and looking toward the camera.
Veeresh lifted the phone and took several pictures.
He checked them.
Veeresh: "Come here. Let me show you."
Poornima walked over and looked at the pictures.
Her eyes widened slightly.
Poornima: "Okay... these are actually good."
Veeresh smiled.
Veeresh: "I told you."
Poornima took the phone back.
Poornima: "Don't become too proud, expensive husband."
Veeresh shook his head.
Then Poornima looked at him again.
Poornima: "Take some more."
Veeresh took the phone from her.
This time, he took pictures of Poornima holding Noor.
Poornima smiled naturally at the baby, and Veeresh captured the moment.
Then he took a few more pictures of Noor alone.
Poornima looked at the photos and smiled.
Poornima: "She's so cute."
Veeresh looked at Noor.
Veeresh: "She is."
Poornima suddenly looked at him.
Poornima: "Now take one of yourself."
Veeresh looked surprised.
Veeresh: "Me?"
Poornima: "Yes. You don't have any pictures."
She took the phone from him and held it up.
Poornima: "Come here."
Veeresh stood beside her.
Poornima smiled toward the camera and gently held his arm.
Veeresh looked at her for a second before looking at the camera.
She clicked the picture.
Then Poornima looked at Noor.
Poornima: "Now one with Bubba."
Veeresh picked Noor up carefully.
Poornima stood beside him and held his arm again.
Veeresh held their Bubba securely in his arms.
Poornima smiled at the camera.
Click.
Another picture was taken.
Poornima looked at it afterward.
The picture showed the three of them together.
Veeresh holding Noor.
Poornima holding Veeresh's arm.
And their little Bubba between them.
Poornima stared at the photograph for a few seconds.
Something about it felt strangely natural.
She quickly looked away.
Poornima: "Okay. Enough pictures."
Veeresh smiled.
Veeresh: "You were the one asking for them."
Poornima: "I know."
She took her phone back.
Then she looked at the picture again when Veeresh wasn't watching.
For a brief moment, she didn't see a political marriage.
She simply saw three people standing together.
A husband.
A wife.
And a little baby they both loved.
Poornima locked her phone and slipped it back into her purse.
Poornima: "Come on. We're getting late."
Veeresh nodded.
He adjusted Noor comfortably in his arms.
Together, they walked toward the entrance of the Taj Residency.
