Chapter 30 — The Sudden Reaction
The drive back to the Qureshi mansion was quiet.
Poornima had been looking out of the window, thinking about her decision to continue her B.Com.
Suddenly, her expression changed.
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat and placed a hand near her stomach.
Veeresh noticed immediately.
Veeresh: "Poons, what happened?"
Poornima took a breath.
Poornima: "Stop the car."
Veeresh immediately pulled the car over.
He turned toward her, concerned.
Veeresh: "What happened?"
Poornima opened her clutch and started searching through it.
Poornima: "Open my clutch. There is a tablet inside. Give it to me."
Veeresh quickly took her clutch and opened it.
Veeresh: "Which one?"
Poornima: "The allergy tablet. Give it to me quickly."
He found the medicine and handed it to her.
Poornima took the tablet with some water.
Veeresh watched her carefully.
Veeresh: "Are you okay?"
Poornima: "Wait."
A few minutes passed.
Slowly, her discomfort began to settle.
Her breathing returned to normal, and she relaxed against the seat.
Veeresh was still worried.
Veeresh: "What happened, Poornima?"
Poornima looked at him.
Poornima: "Veer... I think I ate mushroom."
Veeresh frowned.
Veeresh: "Mushroom?"
She nodded.
Poornima: "I'm allergic to mushrooms."
She paused.
Poornima: "And I'm allergic to red meat too."
Veeresh's expression became serious.
Veeresh: "Why didn't you tell me?"
Poornima looked down.
Poornima: "I didn't think I ate any mushrooms. I checked my food and I didn't see them."
She sighed.
Poornima: "But maybe they were mixed into something."
Veeresh looked at the tablet in her hand.
Veeresh: "And this is your allergy tablet?"
Poornima: "Yes."
She gave him a small reassuring smile.
Poornima: "I'm okay now."
Veeresh wasn't convinced.
Veeresh: "You're sure?"
Poornima nodded.
Poornima: "Yes. It was a mild reaction. The tablet helped."
Veeresh remained silent for a moment.
Then he started the car again.
Veeresh: "From now on, you're telling me about every allergy you have."
Poornima looked at him.
Poornima: "Why?"
Veeresh: "Because you're my wife."
Poornima rolled her eyes.
Poornima: "There you go again."
Veeresh glanced at her.
Veeresh: "And because I don't want you getting sick."
Poornima became quiet.
After a moment, she smiled faintly.
Poornima: "Fine, Veer."
Veeresh drove toward the mansion, keeping a closer eye on her than before.
Neither of them noticed that Noor, sleeping peacefully in the back seat, had stirred slightly.
Poornima leaned back and closed her eyes.
She was feeling normal again.
But Veeresh's concern hadn't disappeared.
He knew one thing now.
He needed to make sure everyone in the house knew about Poornima's allergies.
He wasn't going to take a chance with her safety.
