Chapter 58 — The Opening Ceremony
The next morning, the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the puja and opening ceremony.
Flowers adorned the entrance, traditional decorations hung across the walls, and the entire Qureshi family had gathered to celebrate Poornima's dream.
Poornima arrived wearing the saree she had chosen.
Veeresh was dressed in the kurta and pyjama she had bought for him, while Noor looked adorable in her little blue frock.
The priest began the puja.
Veeresh and Poornima sat beside each other, with Bubba comfortably sitting between them.
They followed the priest's instructions carefully.
Poornima offered the flowers and performed each ritual while Veeresh followed beside her.
At one point, the priest asked them to hold hands during the prayer.
Poornima looked at Veeresh for a moment before gently holding his hand.
Veeresh looked at her but didn't say anything.
Their other hand rested protectively around Bubba.
For Poornima, the moment felt strangely meaningful.
This wasn't the beginning of a marriage.
It was the beginning of something she had built with her own hands.
Her dream.
Her restaurant.
After the puja was completed, everyone gathered near the entrance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Poornima stood beside Veeresh with Bubba in their arms.
She looked at the ribbon and smiled.
Poornima: "Ready, Veer?"
Veeresh smiled.
Veeresh: "Ready, madam."
Poornima laughed softly.
She held the scissors together with Veeresh while carefully supporting Bubba.
Noor reached toward the ribbon curiously.
Poornima: "Bubba, look. Mumma's restaurant."
Veeresh and Poornima cut the ribbon together.
Everyone clapped.
Poornima's face immediately lit up with happiness.
She looked at the restaurant entrance, then at her family.
Her father smiled proudly.
Mrs. Qureshi wiped away a small tear.
Veeresh looked at Poornima.
She was genuinely happy.
No anger.
No tears.
No fear.
Just happiness.
Poornima hugged Bubba closer and smiled.
Poornima: "We did it."
Veeresh looked at her.
Veeresh: "You did it, Poons."
She smiled at him.
For the first time, the doors of her restaurant opened.
And with her family beside her, Poornima stepped inside to begin the life she had always dreamed of.
