Chapter 14 โ A Motherโs Trust
That night, the Rajawat haveli was once again filled with activity.
There was no celebration this time.
No music.
No guests.
The family was simply packing everything Poornima would need for her new life in Germany.
Suitcases were placed across the room while Gayathri carefully checked Poornima's clothes and belongings.
Poornima stood quietly nearby, watching everyone.
Veeresh was checking the documents and passports, making sure everything was ready for their departure.
Kamala looked at him for a long moment.
Then she walked toward him.
Kamala: "Veeresh."
Veeresh looked at his mother.
Veeresh: "Hmm?"
Kamala: "I'm trusting you with Poornima."
Her voice was gentle but serious.
Veeresh nodded.
Kamala: "Don't make me regret that trust."
Veeresh: "I won't, Maa."
Kamala looked at Poornima.
Kamala: "And Poornima..."
Poornima: "Ji, Chachi?"
Kamala smiled softly.
Kamala: "I know you. I know how strong you are."
She took Poornima's hand.
Kamala: "But this is a new relationship. Give it time. Don't rush anything."
Poornima nodded.
Kamala continued.
Kamala: "You both are going to a new country and starting a completely new life together. There will be misunderstandings. There will be differences."
She looked at Veeresh.
Kamala: "Veeresh may make mistakes."
Then she looked at Poornima.
Kamala: "And if you ever feel he is going in the wrong direction, you have every right to bring him back on track."
Poornima listened quietly.
Kamala squeezed her hand.
Kamala: "But don't lose yourself while trying to understand him."
Poornima's eyes became emotional.
Kamala: "Be brave, beta."
Poornima nodded.
Poornima: "I will."
Kamala then turned toward Veeresh.
Kamala: "And you."
Veeresh: "Yes, Maa."
Kamala: "She is leaving everything familiar behind and coming with you. Remember that."
Veeresh looked toward Poornima.
For a moment, his expression softened.
Veeresh: "Maa, I won't do anything wrong."
Kamala nodded.
Kamala: "Good."
Aravind and Gayathri had been listening quietly.
Aravind walked toward Veeresh and placed his hand on his shoulder.
Aravind: "We know you, Veeresh."
Gayathri smiled.
Gayathri: "And we trust you."
Veeresh looked at both of them.
Veeresh: "Thank you, Bade Papa."
Aravind smiled.
Aravind: "Take care of her."
Veeresh nodded.
Veeresh: "I will."
Gayathri then hugged Poornima tightly.
Gayathri: "No matter where you go, remember that this will always be your home."
Poornima hugged her mother.
Poornima: "I know, Maa."
Veeresh quietly watched them.
For the first time that night, the reality of what he was doing seemed to settle somewhere inside him.
Poornima wasn't simply travelling to Germany with him.
She was leaving behind her parents, her home, her familiar life and everything she knew.
And now she was his responsibility.
He looked at her silently.
Poornima noticed.
Their eyes met.
Neither said anything.
But this time, the silence between them felt different.
