Chapter 24 – I’m Sorry

The room became quiet again.

Poornima turned away from Veeresh and looked toward the window.

His words had hurt her more than she wanted to admit.

She understood why he had said them.

She knew he had trust issues.

She knew his past had made him cautious.

But hearing him question whether she was genuine still brought tears to her eyes.

A tear slowly slipped down her cheek.

Poornima quickly wiped it away, hoping he wouldn't notice.

Veeresh remained silent for a while.

Then he moved closer to her.

His hand gently came around her waist.

Poornima didn't move away.

She simply closed her eyes.

Veeresh looked at her face and noticed the traces of tears.

His expression changed.

He understood that his words had hurt her.

Veeresh: "Poons..."

She didn't answer.

He moved a little closer.

Veeresh: "I'm sorry."

Poornima opened her eyes slightly.

Veeresh spoke quietly.

Veeresh: "I shouldn't have spoken like that."

She remained silent.

Veeresh: "But try to understand my situation."

His voice was softer than usual.

Veeresh: "Trust isn't easy for me."

He paused.

Veeresh: "But I'll try."

Poornima looked at him.

For a moment, neither said anything.

Then she gave him a small smile.

Poornima: "Okay."

Veeresh pulled her a little closer.

He rested his head near her shoulder and gradually relaxed, his arm still around her waist.

Poornima smiled faintly.

She understood that this was probably his way of apologizing.

Neither of them spoke again.

Veeresh slowly fell asleep beside her, staying close.

Poornima looked at him one last time.

The same man who had seemed so cold when she first met him was now sleeping peacefully beside her.

She gently closed her eyes.

And with a small smile still on her face, Poornima fell asleep in his arms.
