Chapter 41 – A Question
They returned to the penthouse in the evening.
Poornima changed into a comfortable saree and went into the kitchen to prepare some tea.
Veeresh sat quietly in the living room, thinking about everything that had happened that day.
After a while, Poornima came and sat beside him.
For a few minutes, they remained silent.
Then Veeresh looked at her.
Veeresh: "Poons."
Poornima: "Hmm?"
Veeresh: "Do you want to go to India for some time?"
Poornima looked at him, surprised.
Poornima: "Why?"
Veeresh didn't answer immediately.
Poornima studied his face.
Poornima: "Do you want me to go?"
Veeresh shook his head.
Veeresh: "No."
Poornima: "Then why are you asking?"
He took a slow breath.
Veeresh: "Because you've been here since our marriage. You've left your parents, your work, everything familiar, and moved here because of me."
Poornima listened quietly.
Veeresh: "I thought maybe you miss them."
Poornima looked down at her hands.
Veeresh continued.
Veeresh: "And after today... I don't want you to feel like you're trapped here because of our marriage."
Poornima looked at him.
Veeresh: "If you want to spend some time with your parents, go."
Poornima smiled softly.
Poornima: "Veer, I do miss them."
He nodded.
Poornima: "But that doesn't mean I want to leave you."
Veeresh looked at her.
Poornima: "You asked me to come to Germany, and I came because I agreed to this marriage."
She gently held his hand.
Poornima: "I'm not unhappy here."
Veeresh: "You don't have to stay just because of me."
Poornima smiled.
Poornima: "I know."
She squeezed his hand.
Poornima: "If I want to go, I'll tell you."
Veeresh nodded.
Poornima: "But right now, I want to stay with my husband."
Veeresh looked at her for a long moment.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
Veeresh: "Okay, Poons."
Poornima smiled back.
And this time, neither of them felt the need to say anything more.
